about

While travelling solo I stayed with a friend who told me about the siafu, also known as dorylus, driver ants or safari ants. These particularly nasty breed of ant had incredibly powerful jaws live in colonies of around 20 million indivuals. The two facts that struck me as the most interesting were that these ants were blind and were known the attack the eyes of their victims first. That immediately struck me as both very smart and very vindictive, to anthropomorphize, perhaps the ants were jealous of others with sight and were operating under a “if we can’t have them, no one can” principal. The other interesting fact was that, instead of killing, they would often they would choose to merely paralyze their victims and bring them back to the colony, keeping them alive and fresh until they needed to eat them

lyrics

venom! i'm paralyzed
i've never felt so good in my whole life
feel the flesh, melt from the bone
let the colony take me away

rip my limbs
tear my flesh
taste my eyes
gorge yourself
gorge yourself
choke

i'll lay here as you take what you want from me

this is everything that i wanted
take everything that you need
assimilation, acceptance
take what you want from me

all of us are lining up, to be stabbed in the back

if we can't have eyes, if we can't have eyes

set me aside, tear me apart
i'll lay here to die

we survive because they want us alive
wide awake as they tear our our insides
we survive because they won't let us die

we survive because they want us alive
wide awake as they tear our our insides
we survive because they won't let us die
let the colony take me away
