about

This song was written out of frustration with a certain mindset among some of the generally more progressive crowd. An over-reliance on science and a need for progress at all costs. While I am a staunch atheist, nothing is more annoying than a smug atheist that thinks they have the world all figured out and will gleefully taunt those that aren’t in line with their beliefs. Don’t get me wrong, I believe religion can be incredibly harmful and I think there is about as much reason to believe the bible is real as there is to believe Spider Man actually exists. But the arrogance of those that would claim science is the be all end all of moral reasoning, that it is infallible, scares me. As if science isn’t responsible for animal testing, or the Tuskeegee experiment or the Nazis testing on human subjects and tons of horrific acts carried out in the name of science. With this song I wanted to explore the end game of this mindset while framing it in somewhat of a Jurassic Park-esque scenario, where the arrogance of man eventually leads to our downfall. As Malcom says “your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they never stopped to consider if they should”. Ultimately, we the Earth doesn’t need us, we need the Earth. If humans were to die off, the earth and every species on it would flourish. In the scenario in the song, humanity is the ultimate externality of our arrogance and our push for progress at all costs.

lyrics

Vines are coming to get you!

grey cracks, green leaks and then sneaks through
a couple drip drip drops will do
you've created this big bloody mess
now it's ripped and it's pissed and it's coming for you
and all your self assured, grey monument absurd
unquestionable morality confirmed
but soon that crack becomes a means of things undone
green sprouts thorns, legs, eyes, horns, the time has come
slither and grow and strangle all you know
of satisfaction wealth, comfort progress and home
as that green flows into your town
there is nothing that can hold it down

b b b breaking out, up from under the ground
you thought you could control, nature won't settle down
c can't contain it now, now i just won't allow
for all your arrogance, that karm's coming round

churches, factories, hospitals, smoke stacks
all crushed, a take over by weeds
and there ain't no coming back
you thought you wanted it to grow
you thought you had it for your own
but after all is said and done
look what you've got to show
burn the lab smash the cage
trash the club trash the stage
through the smoke and the rage
look at the fucking price we've paid

that karma's coming round

b b b breaking out, up from under the ground
you thought you could control, nature won't settle down
c can't contain it now, now i just won't allow
for all your arrogance, that karm's coming round
that karma's coming round
where is your science now?
that karma's coming round
progress has let you down

vines have got you!
